What is digital community engagement?
Universities’ digital engagement with the community is a paradigm that has only recently started to gain wide recognition and penetration in higher education. Community engagement practices have been largely based on physical face-to-face interactions among students, educators and university staff with external stakeholders. Learning to engage effectively with the communities, businesses, and organisations in the digital space brings a significant element of innovation.
What is a value map?
The Value Maps represent a high-reference analytical management framework that will be utilised by university educators and course directors to identify specific areas of improvement and develop effective responses (value drivers and value sub-drivers). They aim to increase the value that digital community engagement can provide for enhanced student learning and strengthened social impact.
To be more specific, student values are linked to specific drivers, sub-drivers and tools. An example of a driver for the value of “Student Employability” could be “Engage program alumni in a social media group to support and advise students in their job search efforts”. Each value may have two or three drivers.
How to use value maps?
Value Maps are organised in a multi-level structure canvas that is centred around the stakeholders: students and communities. These maps contain the identified values that have been uncovered through workshops and other collaborative processes. The identified values are organised according to their relevance to different stakeholders and are further categorised based on their drivers.
Along with the identified values and drivers, Value Maps also contain various tools, activities and references that can help stakeholders.
