The paper faces socio-ecological crises and fails to meet the basic needs of everyone in society whilst living within planetary boundaries. These interconnected problems are complex and require urgent transdisciplinary efforts informed by theories of change.

The relationship between the built environment and health is an increasingly important issue in the planning and regeneration of the contemporary city. The contribution reflects on the impact of sport and social inclusion on the population’s health and well-being, moving from the results of a research experience.
Community well-being projects helped address social exclusion and reach groups that face barriers to good well-being. The synthesis illuminated how different projects responded to community needs, identified community assets and involved people in priority settings. Developing a multi-layered approach was important in delivering a range of community-based activities, many of which involve social or fun activities.
